Founded in 1992, evolved from a direct service predecessor organization, Citizen Advocates for Justice. In 1991, motivated by the escalation of the prison population and the focus on women as the fastest growing segment of that population, criminal justice experts, religious leaders and Gethsemane members embarked on a strategic planning process from which JusticeWorks Community developed. JusticeWorks’ mission is to educate, organize and mobilize a partnership of community residents, concerned citizens and organizations to advocate for just, humane and effective criminal justice policies, emphasizing alternatives to incarcerated for nonviolent women with children. JWC’s Mother’s Day Public Awareness Campaign was spearheaded by Gethsemane in 1992. www.justiceworks.org
