Donating our Time, Talents, and Resources
Opportunities for Donating Time and Talents at The Church of Gethsemane:
Prison Ministry Visitation:
Chibueze Okorie needs volunteers to visit our Project Connect Members who are in prisons and jails throughout the state. Every Wednesday Mr. Okorie visits someone in a nearby prison. If you are interested in joining him for a visit call Mr. Okorie directly at 718-499-6704 ext. 207 to schedule a meeting.
Letter Writing to Our Project Connect Members:
Please join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month to help write letters to our PC members. You may also stop by any time during the week between 11AM and 3 PM to write a letter. Call ahead of time if possible.
Assist with our Food Pantry:
Collect food for the food pantry
Distribute food to neighbors on the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Put together food packages for Project Connect Members.
Cook lunch on a Sunday or volunteer to help with the Thanksgiving Dinner.
Help plan and organize a forum or adult education class on Criminal Justice and Re-Entry Issues.
Assist with referrals for housing and jobs for formerly incarcerated persons who have been recommended by the church. We have some extremely qualified members with great skills and experience who need to be given a chance to work.
Provide professional legal assistance, computer training, budget planning, and help with grant writing, etc.
Volunteer Sunday afternoons as mentors and guides for men and women coming home from prison--- helping people write resumes, create budgets, organize appointments and meetings, listening to people, and praying with them.
Volunteer to teach at our Art Studio. Share your talents in painting, crafts, or writing with others, by leading a class or workshop series.
